Temples of Bali

Besides such famous temples as Besakih, Tanah Lot or Uluwatu there are many small temples - hidden pearls in the jungle or beside idylic villages.
In the island's heart the monkey temple in the forest of Sangeh is one of these rartities.

Far away from noisy daily life this small temple rests in an old forest surrounded by giant trees and guarded by wild monkeys.

Near the village of Bangli a temple with a very special flair is hidden.

In Pura Kehen old porcellas are found, which are integrated in the temple's walls for decoration. Anyone who has read the novel Liebe und Tod auf Bali by Vicky Baum, will realize, how parts of her story come alive at this place.

The entire temple Pura Kehen is as impressive as each single detail of the richly decorated shrines. Only constant restoration prevents the nearby jungle from taking over the whole temple area with vegetation.

Situated in the mountains and close to village of Bedugul is Lake Bratan. In a cultivated park with exotic flowers at the lake's shore there is an old buddhist temple next to the hindu water sanctuary Pura Ulun Danu Beratan. The temples area spreads into the lake.
